The original M49
- groundbreaking microphone development by the department Zentraltechnik of the Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk (NWDR) under the leadership of Herbert Grosskopf (patent application Feb. 1949)
- was first presented to the public in November 1949
- was the direct successor to the CMV3 bottle mic for broadcasting
- technical basis was the MSC-2 miniature tube developed by Hiller especially for the B-M49
- revolutionary features: first condenser microphone with slanted basket and remote-controlled polar pattern
- rare version of the M7 capsule
- largely flat frequency response with a brilliance boost at 10 kHz. In contrast to the later Neumann M49 there is a slight presence reduction. Round and pleasantly smooth sound

- manufacturing period: 1949-1951 (small series of approx. 30 units), from march 1951 series production in a new design by Neumann
