Sennheiser MKH40
Well established cardioid microphone in RF technology
- since 1962 Sennheiser is the leading manufacturer of condenser microphones in Radio-Freqency technology
- the MKH40 was the first of a newly developed generation of RF microphones in the mid 80s. It followed MKH20 (omni), MKH30 (eight) and MKH50 (supercardioid)
- extremely low distortion + exceptionally low inherent self-noise
- approximately linear frequency response results in a powerful bass (which can be alleviated with a bass roll-off) and rounded, smooth treble
- a slightly darker sound than e.g. Schoeps CMC6 + MK4
- two items for hire (X/Y and ORTF stereo possible). For recording with MS stereo we offer also one MKH30
- manufacturing period: 1985-2021
Favourite applications: standard microphone for classical recordings, particularly for grand piano, strings (violins, violas) and woodwinds. Also well suited for overhead, snare, percussion, room and guitar am
